MUSIC

Background MIDI: "Ring of Fire," by Johnny Cash.

In the mid 1990's I lived in Music City, aka, Nashville, Tenn., during the production of the six-hour documentary America's Music: The Roots of Country.

I took the Governor Jimmie Davis shot, and, unless indicated, all of the other photos were taken by Tom Neff.

For more information about this film please visit the Roots of Country Page.

Lou Delgado and Dolly Parton
Dolly Parton
Boy she's tiny. Dolly's standing on a rather tall crate.

Louisiana Governor Jimmie Davis and wife
Two time Governor Jimmie Davis (40-48 & 60-64) was a force to be reckoned with in Louisiana politics and a gifted singer-sonwriter as well. He wrote the legendary, You Are My Sunshine, one of America's timeless tunes.
This photo was taken at Baton Rouge, LA.
Mickey Gilley and Lou Delgado
Mickey Gilley
Mickey Gilley earned his fame not only as a singer-songwriter,
but was former owner of one of the best honky-tonks ever--
Gilley's in Dallas, Texas, of Urban Cowboy fame.
This photo was taken at Branson, MO.

Larry Henley
Left to R -- Tunesmith Larry Henley, Wind Beneath My Wings, me, and friend.
This photo was taken at Douglas Corner, Nashville, TN, a true Country Music haven.
The photog is C.J. Flanagan, the Nashville Flash.

Kathy Mattea
Not only is Kathy Mattea an incredible singer-songwriter, Where You've Been,
but she and her husband Jon Vezner are committed Democrats as well.
People, "We shall overcome!"

Lou Delgado and Freddy Fender
Freddy Fender
Singer-songwriter Freddy Fender has had many Wasted Days and Wasted Nights,
but fear not girls, he'll still be there Before the Next Teardrop Falls.

Katie Haas
Disc jockey and Country Music television celeb Katie Haas has an incredibly neat persona.
She also warns everyone that, "Line dancing could make you stupid!"

Of course, she said that completely "tongue in cheek."
